This church was started in the summer of 1993 by Jerusalemskirken under the pastoral office of Rev. Christian Alsted, the current Bishop, as an out reach programme of the church. Five people were foundation members. The growth of this congregation has been on a very bumpy and rough road, Joshua Kofi Kyeremeh says. He is currently serving as pastor. Joshua comes from Ghana.
- People come in and go without formal notice, depending on their permit to stay in the country. Sometimes we grow up to 100 and above members, but we get reduced as a result of such movements. Job security and permits to stay play a major role in the numerical strength of our church. We have a church-board of seven (7) members (which is co-ordinated by two pastors from the Danish congregation) that steers the administrative work of the congregation.
- This is a multicultural church, Joshua says, but for the sake of understanding among members, we use English as medium of expression at our worship. Introduction of other languages may be possible if people with lesser understanding of English turn to become more among us, he adds. We sing both traditional and contemporary hymns and we use methods of both angles to give a fair taste to every one who joins us.
- The mission of our congregation is to provide an opportunity to all Christians in and around Copenhagen (who want to fellowship in a language other than Danish) to come and feel at home and maintain their personal contact with God through worship in English. We are to bring the message of salvation to the non-Christian sector of the community, especially refugees and immigrants. (Matt. 28:19-20). We value the teaching and practice of Christ with a full understanding which is demonstrated by the attitude of respect and heartfelt services to other people most especially, those outside the church.
- A course is being organised for lay-preachers in the "Jerusalemskirke" and our members are partakers of this course, Joshua says. There is also a monthly meeting for group leaders on how to run the various small groups in the church such as: The prayer group, The choir, The youth group, The women Fellowship and The children's Sunday school.
